The Writing Center is a campus-wide support service
In academic year 25/26, the Writing Center held over 5,000 one-on-one appointments with over 2,000 Aggie writers. We served an additional 1,000 writers through our workshops and writing retreats.
Writing support for current graduate and professional students
Graduate writers, like all writers, can benefit from individualized, one-on-one consultations with trained peer writing consultants. We provide graduate writers with feedback on
- Seminar papers
- Grants and fellowship application documents
- Thesis and dissertation writing
- Job market documents
- Publishable papers
- Research posters and oral presentations
Graduate and professional students can use the Writing Center to discuss graduate-level writing expectations and disciplinary conventions. Peer consultants, who represent programs from across UC Davis, serve as engaged readers who offer feedback on both writing and writing processes. Through these conversations, consultants help writers develop strategies for navigating disciplinary expectations, building sustainable writing practices, and maintaining accountability for writing goals.
We provide current graduate and professional students with:
- One-on-one consulting - 50 min sessions, in-person or online
- Writing partnerships (recurring appointments with the same consultant)
- Dissertation writing retreats
- Academic writing groups
- Workshops and seminars
- Group and individual study space
