Faculty Support

We help you as writers

  • One-on-one consultations for faculty members’ writing projects and publications
  • Faculty academic writing groups

We support you in the classroom

Our AI stance: The UC Davis Writing Center is a high-trust, student-centered support service. Our starting point is not AI tutoring, but human collaboration and communication. AI can support human-centered learning by creating seamless support pathways that enhance access, scheduling, and follow-up. However, decisions about writing and learning remain grounded in human judgment and expertise as educators work to protect student growth, meaningful writing support, academic integrity, privacy, and equity.

We support all UC Davis faculty and instructors who teach writing, whether you teach a writing component in discipline-specific courses, instruct Writing Across the Curriculum courses or teach discipline-specific Writing Experience courses.

The Writing Center team also collaborates with faculty to develop and facilitate writing workshops specific to course or assignment goals. Previous writing workshops include:

  • Synthesizing Sources
  • Revision Strategies
  • Graduate Writing Expectations
  • Scientific Communication

If you are interested in developing a workshop for writers in your class, please fill out this online writing workshop form or email Erica Cirillo McCarthy, Writing Center director.

Talk about the Writing Center with your students

  • Request a class visit. Peer consultants will visit your class and briefly speak with students about our services
  • Post our digital class visit on your canvas page
  • Encourage all students to use the Writing Center
  • If you offer extra credit to your students for visiting the Writing Center or mandate a visit as part of an assignment, please know that demand for Writing Center services continues to outpace current capacity
  • Use our syllabus statement (revise as necessary to your course goals):
    • The UC Davis Writing Center offers free one-on-one consultations to the Aggie community. We believe that all writers benefit from individualized attention, so we invite writers from any discipline to work with a trained peer consultant on writing and communication projects at any stage of the writing process. Consultants offer concrete strategies within a collaborative environment, guiding writers to develop their voice as they negotiate new writing situations and emerging technologies. To schedule a face-to-face or online appointment, please go to https://writingcenter.ucdavis.edu/ or stop by the Teaching and Learning Complex, fourth floor, or call us at 530-754-2999.
