What are writing partnerships?
Writing partnerships are weekly recurring appointments with the same consultant during a quarter. The goal of the program is for you to make progress on your writing. In your first session, you and your writing partner will collaborate to identify clear, achievable goals based on your current writing project and timeline. Writing partnership sessions can be tailored to your needs, whether you're collecting and organizing research data, synthesizing sources, incorporating advisor or peer feedback, or revising drafts. Sessions can also help you explore discipline-appropriate writing strategies, work through writing challenges, or stay accountable to your writing goals.
If you haven't had the opportunity to meet with a writing consultant, we encourage you to make a one-time one-on-one appointment to get a feel of what's possible. Then, if you think this process will help you make progress towards your writing goals, please request a partnership.
We accept requests until the program is full. Please note that if you miss more than two partnership meetings in a row, your partnership may be cancelled for the rest of the quarter. If you need to cancel your partnership for any reason, please contact Dr. Erica Cirillo McCarthy, Writing Center Director, at [email protected].
Who should request a writing partnership?
Any writer who would benefit from sustained interaction with a writing consultant. For example, writers working on longer projects, such as dissertations or theses; writers who have a particularly busy quarter and want to hold themselves accountable; and writers who want to increase their confidence in writing in Academic English. We extend a warm invitation to returning/adult students, international students, and multilingual students.
Please note availability when completing your request for summer sessions: Monday - Friday, 10AM-5PM. Summer partnerships are scheduled 6 weeks at a time because our staff changes between summer session I and II. You can choose multiple meeting times for your preferred day in the form below.
